Peter Hultqvist (S), newly appointed chairman of the defense committee – and Sweden’s former defense minister – wants Sweden to form a joint army for the North Calotte together with Norway and Finland within the framework of NATO, writes Dagens Nyheter.

– We must have a high ambition in NATO and do everything we can to achieve good planning in the Nordic region, says Peter Hultqvist, to the newspaper.

He thus wants Swedish soldiers to be able to defend the Finnish border with Russia.

– We have a shared responsibility. It is one of the foundations of NATO that you take collective responsibility. In the Nordic countries, we have a special obligation to help each other. We already have war planning with Finland, says Hultqvist to DN.
