Hultqvist: A new iron curtain awaits

Hultqvist A new iron curtain awaits

We will have to live with an iron curtain, a new cold war, for a long time in Europe.

This is what Minister of Defense Peter Hultqvist (S) says in a speech at the Academy of Military Sciences.

He also says that Sweden will send more weapons and materiel to Ukraine. What exactly it is about, he does not go into in his speech, which is held digitally because Hultqvist was recently infected by covid.

In the speech, Hultqvist states that the previous defense policy was incorrect.

– What we see now shows with great clarity that the strategic time-out we had a couple of years ago was a big mistake and was based on naivety, says Hultqvist.

He criticizes the development in Russia.

– In Russia there is no democratic tradition, but a tradition of empire thinking and mastermind mentality. Mankind should have left this low thinking behind in 2022, says Hultqvist, who warns of the time ahead:

– We will have to live with an iron curtain for a long time, or a cold war if you will, with a sharp border between an authoritarian Russia and a democratic Europe, says Peter Hultqvist.
