Hugo Larsson directs new criticism at Jon Dahl Tomasson

Hugo Larsson got a place in Jon Dahl Tomasson’s national team squad this time too – despite the conflict that arose during the last gathering.
However, playing time was limited for the 20-year-old midfielder, who once again chose to speak out about his disappointment.

– Accepting such a thing is not very easy when you have fought all your life to get here and feel that you deserve to play, he tells Sportbladet.

That was the big talking point in front of the national team captain Jon Dahl Tomasson’s press conference where he presented the squad that would face Slovakia and Estonia in the Nations League in October. Would Hugo Larsson really join? It turned out that they had both smoked a peace pipe, because the Skåne was still on the list of Swedish national team players.

The success of friends

Unfortunately, even this collection was a bit of a disappointment for the 20-year-old midfielder, who is now making a success of the Bundesliga team Eintracht Frankfurt. Against Slovakia, he only got a little over half an hour on the field, when he replaced the goalscorer Yasin Ayari after 62 minutes. Against Estonia, he was substituted in the 83rd minute of the match.

He is clear that he is very happy that the best friends from the MFF era, now competitors, Sebastian Nanasi and Hugo Bolin had to score two goals and make his debut for Blågult. But for their own part, it was not optimal because they operate on the same surfaces on the football field. After the match, he was asked if he thinks the situation is hopeless right now.

– I don’t want to say hopeless. You just have to keep fighting. Somewhere he must have made it clear that he likes the others. I will do everything in my power to turn it around. Obviously they make a great game, I won’t say anything about it, but somewhere we are all here to play. It is what it is, I’m going back to Germany and continue to do as well as possible, says Larsson to Sportbladet.

He says that he cleared the air with the Dane and that they had a meeting where they watched clips and discussed his role in the national team. He wants to keep what they said between them, which in itself is a small slip to Jon Dahl Tomasson.

“Became bigger than it was”

Hugo Larsson is still noticeably frustrated that he is not allowed to play more in the national team. He himself thinks that he is already an established and mature footballer who should not have to “grow into” the team, which the national team captain seems to want.

– No, we all come here with great confidence. As I said at the beginning of the collection: I came here from the best month of my career and then I didn’t get to play anymore. It is Jon who leads the team and you have to accept that. But of course it is sad and accepting such a thing is not very easy when you have fought your whole life to get here and feel that you deserve to play. I’m not quite there yet, he says.

At the same time, he doesn’t want to have another conflict with his coach, as he thinks it didn’t benefit anyone last time. It stole an unnecessary amount of focus.

– It became bigger than it was on the inside, but somewhere it was still big and you talked about it all the time. So now it’s probably over and it can be quite nice. Now it will be extra nice to come back to the club team and play football again. I know that I am a good soccer player and do incredibly well in one of the best leagues in the world, he says.

We understand that you are disappointed, Hugo. Right now there are actually many young, exciting footballers that we want to see in the national team. Jon Dahl Tomasson must be struggling to get his elves out.
