Hugo, 6, is waiting for a lung transplant – living with a 25 meter long tube

Hugo Vendin has assistants from home health care who help him around the clock with everything from tube feeding to watching over him at night. Hugo’s parents work in shifts as little brother Sixten cannot have childcare as Hugo can get seriously ill from a common cold.

– Both Sixten and Hugo would have to be at preschool and meet children, but that’s not possible. We cannot be where there are many people. This spring was the first time the children went to the cinema, then we got a private screening, says mother Theres Jönsson.

“The hospital can call in five minutes”

In May 2023, Hugo Vendin was put on the list for a lung transplant. This means that the family can never be an hour away from the home in Skutskär.

– The hospital may call in five minutes or it may be two years or never, you never know, says mother Theres Jönsson.
