Debut away to Liverpool.
Then Alexander Isak showed class right away.
The Swede became a goalscorer at Anfield – and is praised by supporters, experts and legends are lyrical.
“A fantastic start for Isak”, writes Gary Lineker.
Newcastle had hopes that their most expensive signing ever, Alexander Isak, would be ready to play already for this weekend’s match. But the work permit dragged on, and many thought he would miss even the mighty away game against Liverpool on Wednesday night.
The dream goal against Liverpool
But with an hour left until the start of the match, the news came that Alexander Isak was in the starting line-up, and the PL debut could hardly have come against more difficult opposition, and in a louder arena. But Alexander Isak did exactly what he did in AIK just over six years ago – goal in his league debut.
Isak had already threatened and created chances when, in the 38th minute, he found a nice surface in the penalty area. He received the shot in a controlled manner, and made no mistakes whatsoever in the free position against the world goalkeeper Alisson. Isak kicked the ball high, and ran off to celebrate with the away fans. At home on the TV couch, Alan Shearer, Newcastle legend and one of the top goalscorers in PL history, was enjoying himself.
“Oh yesssssss Alex,” he writes on Twitter, followed by loads of encouraging emojis.
“A fantastic start”
In the second half, Alexander Isak had another dream goal in the net, but he was waved off for offside by the smallest possible margin. Instead, Liverpool were able to equalise, and in the 98th(!) minute decide the match. But afterwards it was rather Alexander Isak that everyone was talking about. Praise poured in from all sides.
“A fantastic start for Isak,” writes attack icon Gary Lineker on Twitter.
In the British press, which is usually so fierce, he was praised to the skies – and he was compared to one of the sharpest strikers in Premier League history.
“Alexander Isak already looks like ‘the real deal’. Moves perfectly without the ball and is totally fearless when challenging defenders, and clinical when scoring his first goal. Understand why so many have compared him to Thierry Henry,” writes Aaron Stokes, journalist at The Chronicle.
