At the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, a connection to the GI Joe film series is teased when protagonist Noah (Anthony Ramos) meets Nick Fury-style Agent Burke (Michael Kelly). Both franchises belong to the toy manufacturer Hasbro, which may have made negotiations a little easier.
