That’s what the monster spectacle King Serpent Island is all about

As the title suggests, King Serpent Island takes place on a tropical island with poisonous fauna. The hero of the film is the former soldier and – as the Chinese synopsis put it promisingly – “national snake data collector” Chen Zheng. On the island he wants to examine the Titanpython, which is believed to be extinct. A dangerous undertaking in itself, he encounters ruthless snake catchers who see a gold mine in the reptiles.

Produced for Chinese streaming service iQIYI in 2021, King Serpent Island is one of a series of Effect-loaded monster spectacles from the Middle Kingdom like The Python, King of Snake (by the same director) or Monster of the Deep. In a way, Meg and the upcoming Meg 2: The Deep counts as well. The shark adventures, starring Jason Statham, are US-Chinese co-productions specifically aimed at the Chinese market and feature superstars such as Li Bingbing and Wu Jing in the cast.

From the July 28th the python meanders in this country in DVD and Blu-ray * shelves. Meg 2 hits theaters on August 3rd.
