A 42-story skyscraper in the middle of Hong Kong’s major shopping district has been on fire since 11 p.m. Thursday evening, local time.
The skyscraper is a work in progress and is surrounded by scaffolding engulfed in flames.
Witnesses state for South China Morning Post that explosions have also been heard from within the sea of fire. Firefighters are working to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.
At least two people have been injured and taken to hospital – the extent of their injuries is still unclear.
Residents nearby are asked to keep doors and windows closed to avoid the toxic smoke.
What caused the fire is not yet clear.
