Kristine Stavås Skistad made a comeback on Tuesday.
Then something happened that was not allowed to happen on the ski tracks.
– I have never experienced anything like this before. It’s insane, she tells NRK.
There has been silence around the Norwegian skiing star for over a month Kristine Stavå’s Ski City. Ever since the fiasco at the World Cup in Lillehammer at the beginning of December, she has stayed away from the public and trained on her own.
Drama for Skistad
On Thursday, the Norwegian made a comeback on the ski tracks again when it was time for sprint qualifying at the Norwegian championships in Hamar. But then there was great drama right away for Stavås Skistad.

The Norwegian sprinter’s season has already been highly dramatic with a secret stomach operation just before the season premiere. The only World Cup race she has done is the one in Lillehammer, when she was eliminated already in the quarter-finals and stormed out of the competition area.
Broke the rod immediately
Now the thing that was not allowed to happen happened during today’s sprint qualifying. Kristine Stavå’s Skistad started first of all in the prologue but early on the pole broke completely.
– Oh, what’s going on here!? The rod goes! This is critical for Stavås Skistad, which will not get a new pole, say the Norwegian commentators.

The Norwegian then got a new pole during the race, but she didn’t like it at all and threw it away in the middle of the track. She didn’t appreciate the third stick very much either and threw it away in anger after the finish line.
“It’s insane”
But despite the pole failure, she still managed to get eleventh in the qualifiers with her time and is on to the final session later on Thursday.
– I have never experienced anything like this before. I rode without a pole all the way and if it lasts to the quarter finals, it’s insane. It won’t work, says Skistad to Norwegian NRK.

The 25-year-old also opens up about what really happened in Lillehammer.
– It took two days to get over it, but now I feel good again. It was too early to start in Lillehammer. The head wanted to, but the stomach couldn’t handle it, says Skistad to the Norwegian media.
She is also selected for this weekend’s World Cup competitions in Les Rousses, France.
– It will be a good run-through before Les Rousses, says Stavås Skistad about today’s sprint race.
