Norway were big, big favorites in the opening match of Olympic handball. Sweden had not won against Norway in a championship for seven years, and Norway was pointed out by many as the big favorite to win gold in Paris.
Everyone says the same thing
And it looked very good for Norway at times. At most, they had a four-goal lead in the match against Sweden, but after, among other things, great play by goalkeeper star Johanna Bundsen, Sweden was able to turn around, and in the end it was a blue-yellow win with four balls, 32-28.
And it was clear that the result was both difficult and surprising for Norway. In the media, the verdict against the Norwegian national team was harsh after the final whistle, and the newspapers did not hold back in their headlines.

The fact that Norway did not win when goalkeeper icon Katrine Lunde, who yesterday became the player with the most Olympic games of all time, played big was even more surprising. She hardly understood herself what had happened after the match.
– Right now there are many strange thoughts. It’s difficult to analyze – I’m not sure why we don’t get our best, she tells VG.
For Norway, tough opposition now awaits in the form of Denmark, where a win is almost required to put themselves in a good position in the group. However, the verdict after the opening match was rock hard.
– We make too many mistakes, we don’t hold together in defense… A rusty opening match for us, says Veronica Kristiansen.
