The Swedish national skiing team had a thunderous start to the season.
But before the World Cup in Gällivare this weekend, there is great chaos.
Frida Karlsson is forced to isolate herself – but the great news is that Alvar Myhlback gets to make his debut.
The premiere weekend of the World Cup in Ruka was one big blue-yellow victory party on the women’s side. Emma Ribom won the sprint while Ebba Andersson and the giant scarecrow Moa Ilar won each distance race.
Chaos in the national team
Best of all overall it worked out Frida Karlsson who is currently leading the entire World Cup after the first three races in Finland. Now the World Cup turns to Sweden and Gällivare and then the Swedish national ski team has suffered a huge chaos that affects the entire upload.
Both Jonna Sundling and William Poromaa has tested positive for covid-19 and will not compete in Gällivare next weekend. In addition, have Lynn Svahn and Frida Karlsson tested positive for covid-19 and there is great uncertainty here.
– We are in a situation where several in the squad have tested positive for covid-19 after the World Cup competitions in Ruka. The situation is of course unfortunate, and we are currently taking several measures to minimize further spread of infection as many active people are already on site in Gällivare. For example, through regular quick tests, continued accuracy with hand sanitizer and mouth protection, and that meals are taken in the respective rooms, says the national team doctor Richard Noberius in a press release.

Myhlback taken out
Overall leader Karlsson has now been isolated but is still eligible to compete in Gällivare.
– Frida Karlsson has been isolated and we continue to follow the development of possible infection symptoms and if it turns out that there will be negative tests during the week, before we make a final decision regarding the start of the competition, says doctor Noberius.

But the great news is to have the Swedish super talent Alvar Myhlback gets the chance for the very first time at the World Cup. As Sweden is the host country, you get the opportunity to take more cross-country skiers to the World Cup, and therefore the 17-year-old gets the opportunity to make his debut this weekend.
Myhlback impressive in the Swedish premiere, but was still not allowed to compete in Ruka. Instead, he responded by winning his very first senior race in a sprint in Idre that same weekend.
