SUEKs investigation into baseball player Joni Rytkonens suspected serious ethical

According to Helsingin Sanomat, Joni Rytkönen, who is suspected of sexual harassment, filed a criminal complaint against women related to the harassment case.

The police have started a preliminary investigation of the baseball player Joni Rytkönen about the criminal report he made, says Helsingin sanomat newspaper. Rytkönen has filed a criminal complaint against young women who are connected to the harassment case.

Last spring, Rytkönen was reported to Suek, the Finnish sports ethics center, about sexual harassment.

The police are investigating whether the women have committed a crime. According to Helsingin Sanomat, the police are investigating the case as defamation.

Eastern Finland’s police department confirmed to in the fall that the police are investigating Rytkönen’s actions. During the summer, a criminal complaint was filed against Rytkönen, which is related to events in 2022–23. A preliminary investigation is underway in the case, which started last summer.

Suek’s investigation into Rytkönen ended in August, after which the case was taken to the Sports Ethics Disciplinary Board. According to HS, the Disciplinary Board will consider the case on December 16.

The sports disciplinary procedure and the preliminary investigation by the police are not related to each other.

Rytkönen started last summer’s Superpesis season as a Joensuu Maila player. Maila, however, shelved the player’s harassment report.
