The new net drug 3-CMC, which also goes by the name crystal, is on the rise and the abuse is creeping down with age. The drug is spreading rapidly in the country and addicts as young as 12 have been found. Motala is one of the smaller towns in the country where the drug has taken a strong hold. Karin Ahlund, acting unit manager at MiniMaria in Motala, meets both young people and parents who seek help to overcome addiction.
– The most dangerous thing you can do as a parent is to think that it won’t happen to your child, says Ahlund.
Young people become guinea pigs
– There is a hype around the drug crystal, which is heavily marketed towards young people in social media, says Lennart Karlsson, commissioner at the narcotics police and chairman of the Swedish Narcotics Police Association, who also sees how the criminal gangs have opened their eyes to the drug and hooked on the market.
