Keeping our lives organized can be difficult, and a reminder app is a great way to ensure you don’t forget important tasks. However, syncing these reminders across devices can be difficult, especially if you use different ecosystems. Fortunately, there is a workaround that allows you to sync Apple Reminders with your Android device. Here’s what you need and how to do it:
Prerequisites:
You will need a Microsoft account to perform this action. If you own an Xbox or Windows PC, you probably already have an account. If not, you can create one during the installation process. You also need to install Microsoft Outlook on your Apple device and Microsoft To Do on your Android device (except Samsung phones).
If you’re happy to use Microsoft To Do as your reminder app on both platforms, you can do so. However, if you prefer the built-in reminders app on your devices, the steps below will help you sync Apple Reminders with your Android device.
Setting Up Your Apple Device:
- Open the App Store on your Apple device and search for “Outlook.”
- Download and install the Outlook app.
- Start Outlook and sign in using your Microsoft account.
- Go to “Reminders” in your device’s settings app.
- Scroll down and tap “Accounts”.
- Find and select “Outlook” in the accounts list.
- In this menu, make sure to turn on the toggle next to “Reminders.”
With these settings, your Apple Reminders will sync with your Outlook account.
Configuring Your Android Device:
If you have a Google Pixel phone or a non-Samsung Android device, follow these simple steps:
- Open the Google Play Store on your Android device and click “Microsoft To Do.” Download the app.
- Launch Microsoft To Do and sign in with your Microsoft account.
Now all reminders saved to your Microsoft account will appear in Microsoft To Do on both your Apple and Android devices.
Using Samsung Reminders:
If you have a Samsung device and prefer the built-in Reminders app, you can sync it with Microsoft To Do:
- Open the Samsung Reminders app.
- Swipe the menu on the left and tap the settings icon in the upper right corner.
- Find the option that says “Sync with Microsoft To Do.” Turn on this toggle and sign in to your Microsoft account.
This setup will save your Samsung Reminders Microsoft To Do It will synchronize with and vice versa. It allows you to take advantage of the features of the Samsung Reminders app while keeping your tasks synced across your other Android and Apple devices.
Not Without Disadvantages:
It is important to note that this solution has some limitations. Since Microsoft acts as an intermediary, there may be a delay in synchronization between Samsung and Apple applications. This delay may affect notifications. For example, both your iPad and Samsung phone can alert you when a task alert is triggered. Turning off this alert on one device may not turn it off on another. If you complete the task on both devices, Microsoft To Do may think that two instances have been completed, which may cause problems with recurring tasks.
A workaround for this is to turn off alerts for the secondary device. For example, you can disable notifications and alerts in the iPad’s app. Instead, rely on your phone for alerts because it’s the device you usually keep with you. While not a perfect solution, these drawbacks may be worth considering if you want to use Apple and Samsung Reminders together.
