With the new update iOS 15.2, Apple users will be able to give their friends and family access to their data after they die. With Digital Heritage, photos, notes, contacts, calendars, emails, iCloud Drive files, backups, health data and even Safari Bookmarks stored in iCloud can be transferred to designated contacts. The Digital Heir will have access to all the user’s data.

To access data, proof of death of the iPhone user is required. “In many cases, Apple may require a court order instructing Apple to hand over photos of the deceased to the surviving family,” said Steiber, CEO of GoodTrust, the originator of the Digital Heritage feature.

HOW TO MAKE iPHONE DIGITAL HERITAGE?

Open the Settings app
Tap your name at the top
Choose Password and Security
Tap Digital Heir (Legacy Contact)
Select Add Digital Asylum and follow the prompts.

CAN DIGITAL HERITAGE BE CANCELED?

To remove the contacts you selected for Digital Heritage, follow these steps:

Choose Password and Security
Tap on Legacy Contact
Select the person you want to remove
Tap Remove Contact
