It is rather difficult to put a terrace on a lawn, because it is a very unstable seat. If you don’t want to get into major work with concrete slabs and tiles, the only choice left to you is the wooden deck.
1. Terrace on the lawn: the terrace on joists
You will first need to cover the lawn under the terrace with a tarp or a plastic which will prevent any contact with the drink.
You will then create a structure with joists and lay the terrace on it. The joists are large wooden cleats which are generally 3 m long and 38 x 70 mm in section.
On this structure, you can then fix the decking, wooden slats that fit together to form the terrace.
2. Terrace on concrete pads
If the ground is too soft, you may need to consider resting your deck on concrete pads, but you have to be a very good handyman to do this job. Once the pedestals are in place, you create the joist structure, and you lay the decking.
3. Terrace on foundation screws
A foundation screw is a modern system that replaces concrete pads, with advantages that are:
- quick and easy implementation;
- no drying time;
- solidity and respect for the ground on which the terrace is posed.
Reminder: don’t forget that the joists and the decking must not have any direct contact with the ground or the earth, otherwise they will deteriorate very quickly.
