Wednesday January 1, two hikers died in the Pyrenees after a fall. The two women were unrelated and died within hours of each other in the same area.
Could the two accidents be linked? Wednesday morning, a 33-year-old woman, accompanied by two other people, went for a hike for this first day of the year 2025, in the Pyrenees, in the town of Boutx. She suffered a fatal fall in the morning, reported the CRS at the Luchon aid station, in Haute-Garonne. A few hours later, less than 10 km from the accident, another woman, aged 46, fell more than 300 meters. This did not survive either.
These two events are not linked, since the two women did not know each other, but are due to the same conditions. As reported by the CRS, the two women had equipment that was not suitable. Indeed, the weather conditions at the start of the year should push hikers to be extra careful, using suitable hiking equipment with professional advice.
“We had snowfall, then it rained and it froze with the temperatures,” explain the CRS, who call for the greatest vigilance.
