Xavier Yvon: Every week, when I leaf through the latest issue of L’Express, I always stop for a moment on the page devoted to the list of best-selling books in France. There is the “fiction” category and the “essays and documents” category. At the top of this ranking, a book particularly caught my attention. It is called “Les Apprentis sorciers”, it is published by Albin Michel. Its author is called Alexandra Henrion-Caude, a former geneticist who has now become one of the headliners of the antivax current.
As you know, we at L’Express – and in La Loupe – are very attached to scientific rationality. In previous episodes, we have already dismantled the rhetoric of certain conspiratorial opinion leaders such as Didier Raoult or Idriss Aberkane. You have also been provided with “survival kits” to counter the irrational speeches you may encounter in your daily life.
In Alexandra Henrion-Caude’s book, we spotted many manipulations. Given its success in bookstores, the La Loupe team thought that a new episode was necessary.
