How to connect my computer to Wi-Fi

How to connect my computer to Wi Fi

Difficult to browse the internet without a connection! If you don’t have an Ethernet cable, Wi-Fi is the best solution, and we explain how to connect to it.

At home, during a business trip or on vacation, it is sometimes necessary to connect a PC to Wi-Fi to be able to access the Internet from its computer equipment. In some situations, it is even possible to use your smartphone to connect a PC to Wi-Fi via the mobile. The operation is, in any case, quite easy to perform, and within everyone’s reach. Here are the different steps to follow to easily connect a computer to Wi-Fi.

Connect my PC to Wi-Fi

The development of the wireless Internet network, or Wi-Fi, allows anyone who owns a computer to connect to the Internet from any location, provided that there is an active Wi-Fi network at that location, and that the computer in question offers this functionality (this is the case, rest assured, of a large majority of computers). The process is essentially the same on PC as on Mac. It boils down to:

  • click on the icon symbolizing Wi-Fi (to the right of the task bar on a Windows PC, in the menu bar at the top right near the clock for a Mac);
  • select the name of the Wi-Fi network you want to connect to;
  • validate the choice of network by clicking on “”connect””;
  • when the situation requires it, you will then have to enter the security key of the selected Wi-Fi network (or password), then validate.

Unless otherwise specified, the connection to the Wi-Fi network then takes place automatically. It may take a few seconds. Note that if you frequently use the same Wi-Fi network (you go to the same café every week, you are on vacation for a week in the same place, etc.), it is more comfortable to memorize the Wi-Fi network for automatic future connection. This option appears when entering the Wi-Fi network security key (password) online.

Connect PC to Wi-Fi with Phone

Are you in a place without a Wi-Fi network to connect your PC to? Note that you have the possibility of connecting your computer to the Internet via the mobile network of your smartphone. It is, concretely, to transform your phone into a Wi-Fi access point. The operation, also called connection sharing, is again extremely simple. It has three steps:

  • activate connection sharing: to do this, go to your phone’s settings, then in “”networks”” and finally “”connection sharing”” (or “”Wi-Fi access point””);
  • connect to the network thus established from your computer: connection sharing activated, the network is displayed in the list of wireless networks detected by your computer;
  • Enter the password displayed on your phone on your computer.

The connection is then established and you can enjoy Internet access from your computer. However, be careful not to forget that the activity carried out on the Internet via connection sharing directly impacts the consumption of your mobile data and your mobile Internet plan.

Connect PC to Wi-Fi with iPhone

Do you own an iPhone? The process for connecting a PC to Wi-Fi via an iPhone is essentially the same as that described above for an Android device. In fact, it suffices:

  • activate connection sharing: the path materializes here in the form “”settings””, “”cellular data”, “”configure connection sharing””;
  • to follow the instructions displayed on the screen;
  • click on the Wi-Fi network icon on the computer and select the network associated with the iPhone;
  • enter the password when necessary.

Once you complete these steps, tethering between iPhone and computer is active and you can enjoy web access from your PC or Mac. As before, pay attention to data consumption during this type of Wi-Fi connection via smartphone.
