how to celebrate a good ramadan breaking day

AID MUBARAK. It’s today ! The feast of the end of the Muslim fast of Ramadan or “Eid el-Fitr” takes place this Monday, May 2. It is traditionally desired by the formula “Eid mubarak”. Explanations.

[Mis à jour le 02 mai 2022 à 10h12] Muslims in France today celebrate the end of the month of Ramadan. Many will address the formula: “Eid mubarak!” : among practitioners of Islam, this traditional formula is closely linked to the celebration of Eid. She means “Good celebration of aid”. If it concerns the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, the feast of the end of the Ramadan fast, it is also used to wishEid el-Kebir (“Feast of Sacrifice”). The feast of Eid al-Fitr, which takes place this Monday, May 2, 2022 this year, symbolizes the completion of the month of Ramadan deprivations, prayers and sharing. It has a central social dimension: after the collective morning prayer, believers visit their loved ones and organize large family meals, give each other gifts… and therefore wish each other “Eid mubarak”. The date of the feast of Eid el-Kébir, alias Eid el-Adha, is estimated by astronomical calculations on Sunday July 10, 2022.

You can wish “Eid mubarak” without being of Muslim faith

On this day of celebration of Eid al-Fitr, know that you can wish a good Eid even if you are not of the Muslim faith. We remember in particular Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has, in the past, been part of the politicians wishing a “Happy Eid al-Fitr” to Muslims celebrating the end of Ramadan. Rappers, among others, also regularly mobilize on this occasion to share their wishes for believers in Islam on the feast day of the end of the Muslim fast.

Each year, the date of the end of Ramadan is decided by the French Council for Muslim Worship (CFCM). In 2022, at the end of the “night of doubt” aka “night of the announcement” of lunar observation on April 30, the official end date of Ramadan was confirmed. In fact, this Saturday, April 30, the religious commission was not satisfied with astronomical calculations which already gave the date of Eid el-fitr months or even years in advance, and wanted to proceed to lunar observation of the “night of doubt”. This very special night was organized by the Grand Mosque of Paris and a dissident coordination of the CFCM on the evening of the 29th day of the month of Ramadan. The crescent of Moon could not be discerned in the sky with the naked eye, which means a duration of the month of Ramadan of 30 days and not 29. Thus, the religious commission confirmed in the traditional way the date of the end of Ramadan, and, de facto, that of Eid al-Fitr, thus celebrating the breaking of the fast the next day. The end of Ramadan was then set for Sunday May 1 and Eid el-Fitr 2022 on Monday May 2.
