Netflix has found an original way to advertise its new animated film. The VOD leader has indeed designed a driving experience for Waze users. We tell you how to try it.

In partnership with Waze, Google’s GPS application, Netflix has designed an original driving experience inspired by the animated film The Sea Beast (The Sea Monster, in France). In a statement on its blog, Waze explains how this new mode, dubbed “Sea Monster mode”, works.

Available worldwide for a limited time, this driving mode allows you to familiarize yourself with the characters that will be featured in the feature film, such as Maisie and Blue. It is the voice of Maisie, a young girl full of enthusiasm, who will guide you in your journeys on Waze.

Small flat, the option is only available in English. Internet users who are less comfortable with the language of Shakespeare will probably hesitate to test the mode during a trip.

Waze doesn’t just change the GPS voice. The Google application also allows you to transform the icon of your vehicle into a rowboat to “enter the spirit of the true adventurer”. In addition, it is possible to change your avatar on the map. Netflix gives the choice between three avatars representing different sea monsters.

How do I activate Netflix’s The Sea Beast experience on Waze?

When you open the Waze app (on Android or iOS), go to My Waze, at the bottom of the screen. Normally a section titled Activate sea monster mode will be visible. Tapping on it will take you to a page where you can configure your entire experience.

If the section does not appear automatically, you will have to activate Maisie and Blue mode manually. We explain how to do it below:

  • Meet in the Settings by clicking on the gears icon in the section My Waze
  • Go into Voices and sounds
  • Select Waze Voice
  • check voice English (US) – Maisie (& Blue)
  • To change the icon of your car, then go to Map view
  • Go into Vehicle icon
  • Choose Boat
  • To change the avatar, click on the avatar icon at the top of the section My Waze
  • Meet in Avatar
  • Choose yellow, blue or red
