There are so many cars in Sweden
The statistics show that there are 7,226,143 cars registered in Sweden.
A total of 334,065 cars were added to the car register during the period from May 2023 to April 2024. Of these, 325,040 were newly registered, while 9,025 cars were imported during the same period.
During the same period, 338,663 cars were deregistered, of which 170,605 were exported, while 168,058 were scrapped.

Most common car brand
The most common car brand in the country is the old folk brand Volvo with 1,379,848 registered cars.
Next comes Volkswagen with 992,253 cars, and Toyota with 469,841 cars.
The most common car model is the Volvo V70 with 267,833 copies, followed by the popular Volkswagen models Golf and Passat with 249,631 and 169,038 copies respectively.

Most common fuel
The most common fuel for cars on Swedish roads is still petrol, which powers 3,529,963 cars.
Second place is occupied by diesel with 2,443,265 cars. Electric cars qualify for third place with 351,462 cars, followed by gasoline-powered plug-in hybrids with 290,902 cars, and gasoline hybrids with 205,544 cars.
Petrol cars are the most scrapped, with 117,330 cars scrapped from May 2023 to April 2024. During the same period, 40,253 diesel cars were scrapped.
Diesel cars, on the other hand, are more popular to export. From May 2023 to April 2024, 64,823 diesel cars were exported, compared to 47,857 exported petrol cars.
