The Republicans hope to keep their seats in the European Parliament and have relied on François-Xavier Bellamy to be their head of list in the European elections. How many LR candidates have a chance of being elected?
The Republicans hope to keep their seats in the European Parliament after the announcement of the results of the European elections this Sunday, June 9. But they will only know if they have achieved their objective with the publication of François-Xavier Bellamy’s first results.
The right-wing party has actually decided, for the second time in a row, to trust François-Xavier Bellamy to be its head of list and represent it in the election. The MEP is not the Republicans’ best-known politician, but he has been the party’s voice in the European Parliament for five years and knows European issues. Some other faces of the right are among François-Xavier Bellamy’s 80 running mates: Nadine Morano and Brice Hortefeux. But the right has also focused on lesser known and more specialized profiles like with number 2 who is the farmer Céline Imart or number 3, Christophe Gomart, a politician but also a soldier.
François-Xavier Bellamy aims to keep at least an equivalent number of elected representatives in the European Parliament, or even more. But this number of elected officials depends on the results they will obtain at the end of the European elections. As a reminder, the polls published until Friday June 7, the last day before the reserve period, credited the head of the list with less than 10% of voting intentions. So how many elected officials can the Republicans hope for?
Who is the head of the LR list, François Xavier Bellamy?
François-Xavier Bellamy had already led the Republican list in the 2019 European elections and had assured the right of a presence in the European Parliament with just over 8% of the vote. The score wasn’t fabulous, but it saved the furniture. The right has, however, decided to renew its confidence in the MEP who has made his mark in the hemicycle. The man chairs the French delegation of the European People’s Party, the majority group in which LR elected officials sit.
The MEP is also well established at the national level within his party: he became executive vice-president of the Republicans in 2023. But not having had a national mandate, his face presented to the French only for the European elections speaks little to voters.

How many LR candidates are eligible for the European elections?
A list must obtain at least 5% of the votes in the European elections to see some of its candidates elected. The number of people elected out of the 81 candidates present on the lists of each party is proportional to the result obtained on election day. A minimum of 5% gets 4 seats and 10% gets 8 seats, etc.
The polls published until June 7, two days before the election, judged François-Xavier Bellamy capable of obtaining between 6 and 7 seats in the European Parliament. An estimate which would allow the Republicans to retain an equivalent number of seats: there are 7 since the 2019 elections. Note that the results of the polls and the projections are only forecasts representing the voting trends at a given time and do not can be understood as reliable predictions.
