How long can a power outage last: “There may be a risk”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The risk of electricity being shut down may be significantly less than the government has warned about, according to Svenska Kraftnät. The Swedish people’s electricity saving and the now well-filled gas stocks in Europe means that the time we may have to be without electricity due to a lack of power is at most an hour or so.

– I always think you should be well prepared for the possibility of a power cut. For the power shortage situation in particular, the risk is no greater than if you get a regular power outage, says Erik Ek at Svenska Kraftnät.

So it’s probably not about several hours of interruption, meat in the freezer that has to be thrown away and dinner cooked in the trangia kitchen. And it is not about the whole of Sweden being switched off, but perhaps one or two percent being disconnected.

– We have previously gone out in the autumn and seen that there may be a risk that there is one to two hours where it is not enough for everyone, says Erik Ek.

After that analysis was done, two things happened that reduced the risk of disconnection. The EU’s gas reserves have been replenished and we Swedes have started to save electricity.
