[Mis à jour le 30 octobre 2022 à 20h45] You may not know it, but it’s the actor Vin Diesel who voices Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy. At the time of taping however, the actor was devastated by the passing of Paul Walker, his friend and partner from Fast and Furious. The latter tragically died in 2013 in a car accident. In the columns of Variety, the interpreter of Groot revealed that the filming of the Guardians of the Galaxy helped him to mourn and find the desire to play comedy (and especially not to abandon the saga Fast & Furious).
“It allowed me to heal,” says Vin Diesel of his work on the project afterwards, “to play a character who could reincarnate, rejuvenate and represent the essence of life – like trees”. “Vin was in a difficult time,” recalls Watchmen director James Gunn. “I think Groot’s simplicity, his innocence and the creativity behind this character brought him a lot of comfort.” Vin Diesel was so invested in his role to Guardians of the Galaxy that he repeated “at least 500 times” the catchphrase “I am Groot”, in English but also in different languages. A real therapeutic work.
