Questions and answers

What is the Election Compass 2022?

Here you can answer 25 questions where the parties think differently, and then get an idea of the extent to which your answers coincide with those of the parties. This is ranked in percentages. You do not get an answer on who you “should” vote for, but how well your answers match the parties’ lines.

Who designed the questions?

The compass was developed by TT Nyhetsbyrån together with the journalist and author Christer Isaksson and Tommy Möller, professor of political science at Stockholm University. They have both worked on producing election compasses before elections since 2002. They have examined what the parties have said in their party programs and in various proposals, how they have acted in the Riksdag, but also what the parties’ representatives have responded when they have made the Election Compass. One or more of the parties’ most important issues are included.

What does it mean that I click on “heart issues”?

Many people have political questions that they think are more important than others – therefore you have the opportunity to click on three questions that are given extra weight in the final weighting of the answers.

What happens if I skip questions?

You can choose not to answer – but you must answer at least one question to get a result. But keep in mind that the result will be fairer if you answer several questions.

My results show that I am closest to parties that I do not sympathize with – why then?

For DN, transparency is important. Therefore, it is reported how the different parties have responded, in connection with your answer. It gives a more in-depth picture of where the parties stand and hopefully answers to why your answers are closer to some parties than others.

The most common arguments – how have they been selected?

The arguments are intended to help you answer the question. They are in the same way as the compass’s questions designed by TT and Christer Isaksson and Tommy Möller, and are a summary of how the arguments are in the political debate.

What happens to my answers – are they saved somewhere?

Your answers are only for you. Neither DN nor TT will save the results or do anything with them afterwards.

Could it be that I make the compass several times and get different answers?

The parties can change their position. If this happens, the Selection Compass is updated. It can have the consequence that your results change, even though you respond in the same way.

Can I answer the questions even though I do not subscribe to Dagens Nyheter?

Yes, DN’s Election Compass is open to everyone. Several other media offer TT’s election compass, so the compass is not unique to DN. In addition, we believe it is important that as many people as possible get the chance to take a stand on the issues ahead of the parliamentary elections on 11 September.
