While scooter mortality figures broke new records in France in 2022, another slightly less conventional form of pattern is emerging. Today, scooters with larger wheels appear to be much safer, especially in the event of shocks or bumpy roads.
Last year, 34 people lost their lives while riding motorized personal transport devices (EDPM), mainly electric scooters, according to the latest almost final figures from the road safety report in 2022 published by the National Observatory. road safety inter-ministerial body (ONISR). This figure is to be compared to the 10 victims of 2019, the last reference year before the Covid-19 crisis. At the same time, 570 EDPM users were also injured, compared to 158 three years earlier.
Large wheels for a lower risk of falls
One of the solutions to ride more serenely would be to opt for an electric scooter model with large wheels. If from an aesthetic point of view we move away from the traditional scooter, the user nevertheless gains in safety. In fact, these wheels provide better support, greater comfort and, above all, allow you to roll over certain obstacles without the risk of falling, by properly absorbing the impact.
Thanks to its greater robustness, this scooter can be used on many surfaces, including dirt or cobblestones. On all types of terrain, it is also faster. Only weak point, it is more cumbersome and is not suitable for public transport.
