Apple and Google, through their mobile operating systems, are actively working to help people who experience nausea when using their smartphones in transportation. This feature makes it possible to simulate the movement of the vehicle on the screen, which significantly reduces this motion sickness.

Called motion sickness, this disorder is actually caused by the conflict between the signals sent by the eyes and those perceived by the inner ear when moving. Even if this only concerns a minority of people, Apple and Google have decided to tackle the problem head on.

With iOS 18, Apple has launched a new tool intended to combat this travel sickness. For those who suffer from it, it is now possible to activate a “Vehicle Movement Indicators”, in the form of animated black dots at the edges of the screen, simulating the movement of the vehicle to reduce the sensory conflict responsible for motion sickness. transport, all without interfering with the proper use of the iPhone. Obviously, this feature is aimed at passengers and not the driver, who must keep his eyes firmly fixed on the road. To activate it, you must go to Settings, then Accessibility and finally Animation. Then select “Show vehicle movement indicators”.

Google seems to be taking the same path, according to Android Authority. The American firm is in fact working on a new feature for Android aimed at similarly alleviating motion sickness among those who use their smartphone in the car. Called “Motion Cues” (“Motion Cues” in French), this option would also display distinctive signs on the screen in order to reduce this motion sickness. No deployment date has yet been announced for this feature which is still in the development phase.
