How a donation of €2.50 plunges German Twitch into chaos and leads to the end of the careers of 2 influencers

A wave is sweeping through German Twitch. Well-known influencers such as Anni The Duck and Unge are suddenly ending their careers – and it all started with a donation of €2.50 in the chat of a completely different streamer.

What’s going on in the German influencer scene? The German influencer scene on YouTube and Twitch is currently in turmoil. After serious allegations, two veterans of the scene, Anni The Duck and Simon “Unge”, have put their careers on hold. When and if they will return is uncertain.

A sword of Damocles seems to hang over the scene, ready to strike again at any time: anyone could be next. And yet it all started so harmlessly – with a donation of €2.50.

Streamer loses her temper after a question about Anni The Duck

What’s the deal with the €2.50? Donations on Twitch are a way to support your favorite content creators. They can usually be accompanied by a highlighted chat message, which is then read out and commented on by the streamers.

A Twitch viewer using the name “jamie” used one such donation of €2.50 to ask the streamer Mowky when she would do something with Anni The Duck again. The streamer was considered to be good friends – just this spring, Mowky had appeared as a “best friend” in a post about Anni.

Mowky lost her temper: She said she no longer wanted to keep the peace. She never wanted to give such a “terrible, brutal person” like Anni The Duck power over her again. She later spoke in more detail about stressful experiences during her friendship with the streamer.

More and more German content creators are speaking out and reporting on their own experiences, especially Twitch streamer Reved, who was in a relationship with Anni until November 2022.

The mood is tense: Who will be next?

What are the effects on German Twitch? For many, this donation is the stone that got everything rolling. Some viewers believe that Unge’s ex-girlfriend Rachel might not have released her video in this form if Mowky and Reved hadn’t made statements about Anni The Duck beforehand.

But a connection is also made to completely different causes:

While at another time such stories might have been dismissed as harmless “drama”, many are now waiting for the next “downfall”. For them, 2024 is the year in which influencers show their true colors (via X).

Users wonder who will be “exposed” next this year

Streamers suggest: It could affect even more people

The mood is further fueled by hints from other content creators.

Twitch veteran Gronkh said in his reaction to Anni The Duck that he could well understand why the streamers had lost their temper. He had experienced it that way too. One can now speculate whether he is thinking of the break with his former friends and business partners Sarazar and Sgt. Rumpel (via reddit).

Following the allegations against Anni The Duck, Twitch streamer Trymacs announced that “more bombshells will drop” this year (via TikTok).

The streamer later confirmed that the allegations against Unge were one of these “bombshells” and that he had known about them for a long time (via YouTube).

It is also noticeable that Anni The Duck and Unge did not simply sit out the scandals and carry on. It cannot be ruled out that both will attempt a comeback at some point, once the matter has been blown over. But as things stand, two big, well-known content creators have ended their careers virtually overnight.

All because of 2,50 €

The idea that a donation of over €2.50 can end entire careers has already become something of a meme for viewers. You can see some examples from social networks here:
