In early February reported News24 About how over 3,000 parking spaces in Stockholm’s inner city – more specifically on Östermalm – would be more expensive.
-We want more people to park in parking houses and in neighborhood land, instead of on streets and quays. Then more of the Stockholm’s common land can be filled with pedestrian and bicycle lanes, outdoor seating, benches, trees and play opportunities. It makes the city nicer for all, explained the traffic citizen council Lars Strömgren (Mp) then.

The decision: No residential parking at newbuilding
It has been decided that residential parking – which allows residents in an area to park on the streets for a discounted fee – should be scrapped in new productions.
Such a arrangement is already found in, for example, Hagastaden, Annedal and Norra Djurgårdsstaden, but now more areas will be covered.
– When we build new, we have the chance to do right from the start. Therefore, we have decided that all new homes should have their parking for residents in neighborhood land, in a garage or parking house. Thus, it will not be possible to park on the street with a discounted fee, says Lars Strömgren to Mitti.

The rules will take effect 1 July 2025
According to Mitti, the new rules come into force on July 1, 2025 and will only include housing that is being built after this. The rules will not affect properties with new building permits for addition or rebuild.
– Anyone who moves into a home that is affected will know in advance that there is no residential parking on the street, says Lars Strömgren to the newspaper.

Moderates critical of the rules
The Moderates, who have previously criticized the changed P-tariffs at Östermalm, are also critical to the new rules on housing parking.
– The same red -green parts that make it more expensive and harder to have a car, also make it more expensive and harder to go collectively. Rather, it must be easier to get ahead in Stockholm, says the opposition citizen council Dennis Wedin (M) to Mitti.
