House prices are rising – despite high interest rates

During the last month, house prices rose by 1 percent across the country. This is what Svensk Mäklarstatistik writes in a press release.

It is the prices in Greater Gothenburg and in the country outside the metropolitan areas, where the majority of house sales take place, that have increased. In Greater Stockholm and Stormalmö, prices were unchanged.

Residential property prices were overall unchanged in June.

Few can afford to move

The number of homes sold continues to be low. During the first half of this year, 18 percent fewer villas were sold compared to the same period last year.

According to the trade association, the reason is the constantly rising interest rates.

“Drastically increased housing costs have made it more difficult for many who need to move to actually do so, which is reflected in low sales figures,” says Joakim Lusensky, head of analysis and communications, Mäklarsamfundet in the press release.
