House of the Dragon: “I have no words…” This unexpected death at the start of season 2 shocked viewers

House of the Dragon I have no words… This unexpected

Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” debuted on the Max streaming platform. The first episode ended with a shocking death for fans.

House of the Dragon made a highly anticipated return this Monday, June 17. The first episode of season 2 was posted online on the Max streaming platform, overnight from Sunday to Monday. The first fans were able to discover it quickly, and did not fail to share their reactions to the different events of the episode on social networks. The murderous finale in particular caused a lot of grief. Warning, the following contains spoilers.

As expected, the first episode of season 2 of House of the Dragon ends with an event that will accelerate the Dance of the Dragons. Furious after the death of Lucerys, Rhaenyra demands revenge and wishes the death of Aemond, responsible for the death of her son. Her uncle-husband, Daemon, decides to take charge and orders a mercenary (Blood) and a sweeper (Cheese) to kill Aemond. But the youngest son of Viserys I and Alicent is absent from Red Keep: we understand that Daemon ordered them to kill “a son for a son” in exchange. They then fall back on Jaehaerys, eldest son of King Aegon and Helaena, and decapitate him (off camera fortunately) in front of his mother before leaving with the child’s head.

This infanticide very logically shocked Internet users, as proven by the numerous reactions to the episode on the social network . I don’t have the words,” comments another. “At the end, I almost threw up it was so crazy,” we can also read on the old Twitter, “I’m going to think about the sounds [d’égorgement, ndlr] from the end of this episode until next Monday”, reacts another. What is certain is that this start of the episode left no one indifferent!

The first episode of season 2 of House of the Dragon has been online since Monday June 17 on Max. Warning, the following contains spoilers. After the events at the end of season 1 of House of the Dragon, the clan of the Black Queen, Rhaenyra, counterattacks at the start of season 2. An alliance with the Starks is forged, with the promise of sending some men from the Night’s Watch and Winterfell to fight alongside Rhaenyra. At the same time, Lord Velaryon sets up a blockade to prevent King’s Landing from receiving goods by sea.

At the same time, tensions begin to emerge between King Aegon and Otto Hightower, who is both his grandfather and the Hand of the King. Aegon is impulsive and but shows himself ready to respond to the demands of the suffering people, when Otto Hightower seeks to measure and control him, inviting him to think more about his actions. This results in tensions, which Larys Strong intends to take advantage of by turning the king against his grandfather.

While King Viserys died shortly before and she is just a widow, we discover in this first episode of season 2 that Alicent is having an affair. She indeed has sexual relations with Ser Criston Cole, Lord Commander of the Royal Guard. Remember that in season 1, the one who was then a simple soldier had a relationship with Rhaenyra. But he took it very badly that she refused to run away with him to marry him, and has since harbored great resentment towards her. At the end of the episode, running into her mother’s room to warn her of the drama that has just unfolded, Helaena surprises her in the middle of having sex with the Lord Commander of the Royal Guard.

Episode 1 of season 2 of House of the Dragon ended with drama. Absent a large part of the episode, Rhaenyra mourns her son Lucerys, killed by her uncle Aemond at the end of season 1. Furious, she demands revenge and wishes the death of her half-brother. Daemon seeks to obey and goes to King’s Landing to find a mercenary who was recommended to him by Myseria. He then asks him “to find and kill Prince Aemond Targaryen. He has silver hair, only one eye”. But the mercenary, with the help of a sweeper, does not find his target at the Red Keep and finally decides to kill one of the Targaryen princes, probably on the orders of Daemon who asked for “a son for a son” when the mercenaries ask him what they do in case of Aemond’s absence. They then behead Aegon and Helaena’s eldest son, Jaehaerys.

House of the Dragon is an American television series adapting the novel Fire and Blood by George RR Martin released in 2018. It is a chronicle dedicated to the Targaryen dynasty and above all a prequel to Game of Thrones, a series HBO success from 2011 to 2019. The first episode of House of the Dragon is broadcast on August 22, 2022. Season 2 is broadcast in France from June 17 to August 5, 2024.

House of the Dragon is set between 200 and 170 years before the events of Game of Throne. The series focuses on the period known as the “Dance of the Dragons”, a period of unrest in Westeros where the Kingdom is split into two camps which support the accession to the throne of two different heirs. At the time, Viserys Targaryen was first on the throne of Westeros. He has no male heir from his first wife but a daughter named Rhaenyra who could succeed him. However, he obtained sons from his second marriage, which disrupted the order of succession and created the seeds of dissension.
