“This series simply wouldn’t have been what it was without him,” writes HBO in a statement, according to Variety.
He will remain in the credits as an executive producer, but it will be Ryan Condal who will continue to run the series as the sole so-called “showrunner”:
“I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished with season one,” Sapochnik said in a statement to Variety, adding that it was a difficult decision.
Sapochnik will instead step into a new role to produce new content for HBO Max.
