As is well known, Game of Thrones had a big problem: The series ended before author George RR Martin had finished his book template A Song of Ice and Fire. This led to all sorts of complications in the last few seasons. This should (theoretically) not be the case with the upcoming GOT series House of the Dragon.
The new series is also based on a book by the writer and the good news is: the story that starts in season 1 has already been completed. You can So read the end of House of the Dragon nowa luxury GOT audiences didn’t have. However, the template differs greatly from Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire.
House of the Dragon is not your typical fantasy novel
House of the Dragon is based on the book Fire and Blood – Book One: The Rise and Fall of House Targaryen of Westeros by George RR Martin, published in German in 2018. While Game of Thrones was based on a novel series, Fire and Blood is a distinctly different beast.
The template is a kind of fictional history book in which Archmaester Fyldayn of the Oldtown Citadel looks back on the history of House Targaryen. Extremely gripping point of view chapters like in the novels should not be expected, the tone is dry. But this also has advantages:
Fire and Blood tells a lot more. The book begins 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, chronicling how Aegon the Conqueror and his sisters conquered Westeros, which Targaryen rulers succeeded him, and what happened 100 years later at the Dance of the Dragons.

Fire and Blood will be 2 volumes
If you read along closely, you may have noticed something: The book mentioned is volume 1, but When is Fire and Blood Volume 2 coming out? We’ll have to wait a long time for that. Because George RR Martin himself stated that he wanted to finish the remaining two books from A Song of Ice and Fire before dedicating himself to this project.
Incidentally, his great role model for fire and blood is the six-volume classic published in the 18th century Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire
by Edward Gibbon. GRRM, on the other hand, wants to leave it at two books.
When and where is House of the Dragon streaming?
House of the Dragon gets up in Germany on the night of August 22, 2022 WOW (formerly Sky Ticket) * and available for retrieval via Sky Q. In the evening at 8.15 p.m. the prelude runs on Sky Atlantic. The first season will consist of 10 episodes.
