The transition to summer time is approaching. The time change, however, has a peculiarity this year which could well disturb certain French …

The sun is increasingly appearing, the days lie down and the traditional event of the end of March is approaching: the time change! As every year, Europe is preparing to switch to summer time. Each year in March, winter time gives way to summer time. When you change the hour in fine weather, you advance an hour and you lose an hour of sleep. At a very precisely 2h00 the night of the rocking, it is already 3:00.

The time change has been established to save energy. In summer, this maximizes the exploitation of natural light, enjoying the extended days, and makes it possible to consume a little less electricity. In 2025, this change will take place precisely on the night of Saturday March 29 to Sunday, March 30 in Europe, and more particularly in France. However, if you are in a particular case, the time change will take place earlier. Not everyone does it at the same time!

In the United States and Canada, in fact, the time change takes place three weeks in advance, the second Sunday in March. If you are traveling in this country, this Sunday, March 9, 2025, you will already have to advance your watch from 2 to 3 am. So be very vigilant if you have to take a flight in the United States or Quebec in the days that follow.

It is also good to know if you want to contact someone there: this rocking will reduce the jet lag between France and the United States for a few weeks. While New York is six hours late in Paris, from March 9 to 29, the American city will only have five. Also note that the passage at winter time, in the fall, will take place a week after the European. He will therefore fall on the first Sunday in November, this year on November 2, 2025. Again, for a week, the gap between New York and Paris will be reduced by one hour.

The United States has six time zones: ranging from less than 6 hours to less than 10 hours on the continent and even minus 11 hours in Hawaii. However, the island does not follow the time change, as is part of Arizona and Indiana. In addition, two thirds of countries around the world have decided not to practice the time change. Some have even abandoned it in recent years.
