The goal monster of Italian Serie B football Joel Pohjanpalo captured his streak of goals on Friday.
Huhkajie’s attacker winged his way to a 3-0 away victory for Venezia FC with his two full-length goals from Palermo. Pohjanpalo played 87 minutes in the match. He was replaced by the Danish Substitute Christian Gytkjaer hit in extra time given by the referee.
“Jolle” scored his first goal with power in the 18th minute of the match Antonio Candela from the concentration sent.
Venezia’s Finnish goalkeeper Jesse Joronen started the away team’s 2-0 goal at the half-hour mark. Pohjanpalo was finally able to complete the hit, when the 29-year-old attacker shot the ball into the net on the outside from a drive through.
Having played one match more, Venezia came second in the series over Cremonese, i.e. a direct promotion to Seria A. Parma leads the series with a difference of five points.
Pohjanpalo told after the winning match on his team’s website Palermo being a meaningful opponent for the Finn.
– Palermo is one of those opponents that is nice to play against. This was the fourth game where I scored a goal against them and now for the first time two goals.
– Last year here in Palermo, our coach Paolo Vanolini in the second game we managed to get a very important win because we were second to last in the league. Now, a season later, things have changed as we fight for promotion.
The team’s head coach Vanoli was also satisfied with his team’s performance in the 3–0 win.
– I congratulate my players because they do so much work every day. We have played so many good games during the season, today we were perfect.
“Will forever remain one of the best memories of my career”
Pohjanpalo said that he was impressed by the audience’s applause at the evening in Palermo.
– Everyone knew the importance of the match and getting respect even from opposing fans after a great performance will forever be one of the best memories of my career. With tonight’s result, we put pressure on other opponents. We’re second in the series, we’ll see what happens with eight games left.
Pohjanpalo has completed 18 goals in the series – four more than the second best, Südtirol Daniel Casiraghi and Cremonsen Massimo Coda.
This calendar year, Pohjanpalo has completed 14 hits in 12 matches.
Pohjanpalo, who moved to Venice from the German club Bayer Leverkusen for the 2022–2023 season, has scored a total of 37 goals for the team in two seasons.
The Finnish men’s national football team will meet Wales next Thursday in the European Championship qualifying match in Cardiff. Pohjanpalo assures that the match is vital for Huuhkaji.
– Jorose and I have very important matches with the Finnish national team ahead of us, there will be pressure, but hopefully we will be able to figure it out.
If Huuhkajat wins Wales, they will face either Poland or Estonia in the final match of the European Championship qualifiers at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki.
