Is the horror movie Orphan: First Kill worth it?

At the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Orphan: First Kill has a good 72 percent average. The performances of returnees Isabelle “Esther” Fuhrman and Julia Stiles are praised. First Kill is above all worthwhile because the film unhesitatingly throws itself into its wacky horror story and time and time again leaves logic behind. But that’s what makes it so much fun, as Noel Murray writes in the LA Times:

The movie is closed equal parts clever and trashyand was made for people who enjoy watching good actors play people who are really bad. What is Orphan First Kill about?

Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman) is stuck in a psychiatric ward in Estonia, but doesn’t even think about being locked up there permanently. She plans her escape and travels to America. Here she has her eyes on a wealthy family: Tricia (Julia Stiles) and Allen’s (Rossif Sutherland) Albright’s daughter has been missing for four years – and when Esther shows up, they are miraculously reunited with her “daughter”.

But the built-up facade of the shy, traumatized girl who finally has her parents back shows cracks. Why can Esther suddenly paint so well? And why is she acting so strange?

How is the return of villain Esther possible?

Original cast member Isabelle Fuhrman reprises her iconic role once more 13 years later: 11 then, 23 this time. With the help of makeup, digital de-aging and the “forced perspective” optical trick by clever ones Camera angle allowed the aging actress to reprise her role as young Esther. Two child actresses also served as body doubles.
