The horror year 2023 is still young, but it already promises to be an extremely eventful one. Since last week, the murderous doll M3GAN has been up to mischief on the big screen. Also coming soon is the sequel, Scream 6. And then there’s Skinamarink, that latest horror hype from the USA.
New horror hype: what’s behind Skinamarink?
Skinamarink is the directorial debut of Kyle Edward Ball, who previously dabbled in horror stories on YouTube. In 2020 he published the Short film Heck, which forms the basis for Skinamarink. Particularly exciting: Skinamarink was referred to as the Blair Witch Project of the TikTok generation.
The story revolves around two children who wake up in the middle of the night and call for their father. They are terrified to find that he is nowhere to be found. It gets even worse: All windows and doors in her house have vanished while a sinister presence lurks. There is no escape.
