Horror legend Stephen King was persuaded to watch a film that many people find bad – and he is thrilled

Stephen King, known as a master of horror and author of numerous bestsellers (Pet Sematary, Carrie), has set his sights on a new film on Netflix. The film was not well received by audiences – but King finds the ending in particular unbelievable.

What movie is it about? In the Waters of the Seine is a French shark horror film that premiered worldwide on Netflix on June 5, 2024. It is about a mutated shark that disrupts preparations for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

Environmental activist Mika (played by Léa Léviant) informs marine biologist Sophia (played by Bérénice Bejo) about the mutated shark that has lost its way in the Seine. To prevent an impending bloodbath, the two women join forces with water police officer Adil (played by Nassim Lyes).

Stephen King praises In the Waters of the Seine

What does Stephen King say about the film? According to his X-post, Stephen King apparently didn’t even want to watch the film. But the community there convinced him to give the work of director Xavier Gens (Hitman) a chance. At first he expected the film to be like Sharknado.

Stephen King wrote the following on X on June 13th:

I thought In the Waters of the Seine was going to be a fun movie like SHARKNADO, but Twitter convinced me to watch it and it’s actually pretty good. The last 25 minutes were incredible.

Stephen King regularly shares recommendations for films, series, books and even music with his followers on X/Twitter. He has already recommended sci-fi series such as 3 Body and films such as Godzilla Minus One and The Coffee Table. MeinMMO author Niko Hernes is also enthusiastic about Godzilla Minus One and finally had goosebumps again after a long time.

How is the film received? In the Waters of the Seine climbed to the top of the Netflix charts. Nevertheless, the shark film also has to contend with poor reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has been penalized with a score of 35% among viewers. On IMDb, the film has 5.3 stars from over 12,000 reviews.

Despite everything, the film is currently one of the most popular on Netflix. Perhaps even more so now that even horror legend Stephen King is praising the shark film.
