Some horror films are forgotten immediately, others after a few years. 2009’s Drag Me to Hell is poised to become a modern classic of the genre. The shocker from horror master and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi is on today at 11 p.m. on RTLZWEI on TV. Just a few days ago, what is perhaps the most disturbing scene circulated again on the Internet.
What is Drag me to Hell about and why is it so good?
Drag me to Hell – Trailer 1 (German)
Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) lives a happy life with her boyfriend (Justin Long). As a clerk at a bank, she decides who gets a loan – and who doesn’t. She stands firm with a mysterious old woman who begs her for help – influenced by her boss, who promises her a promotion if she just forgets her inner Samaritan. The consequence: the now homeless woman puts a powerful curse on her. (In Home Theater: Best Sci-Fi Horror 2022, War of the Worlds Meets Jaws*)
Sam Raimi has great fun putting Christine through hell on earth. The young woman, who briefly forgot her morals, is punished for her decision using every trick in the book. Drag me to Hell is not a pure shocker, but a film in the tradition of the Creator of the Evil Dead series: Many of the scary and disgusting scenes tip into the bizarre without the atmosphere suffering from the subtle humor. But the most impressive thing is the consistency with which Raimi chases the main character through the Karma meat grinder – to the bitter end. (Read the hidden meaning of Drag me to Hell here)

The sequence is maximally cruel, primarily towards Christine, of course. But she also dismisses the viewers with a punch in the pit of the stomach. With the horror fans who commented on the post, she tore up old traumas accordingly.
