The curious origin story of The Hills Have Eyes 2

After several disappointments at the box office, Wes Craven began sequel to his first hit The Hills Have Eyes in order to get some money back. However, even mid-shoot, the production ran out of money and the studio pulled the plug. A short time later, Wes Craven was able to realize his dream project A Nightmare on Elm Street, which finally brought him great success again. Because of this success, it was decided to release The Hills Have Eyes 2 after all. In order to stretch the almost finished film to feature length, some scenes were reshot and flashbacks from the first part were used.

    Between trash and cult:

The boundaries between mockery and admiration are often fluid, especially in the case of low-budget and trash films. The Hills Have Eyes made it onto the list of the worst films by our FILMSTARTS colleagues. We also have the cult horror actioner with only 4.4 out of 10 points. Especially the clumsy patchwork of flashbacks caused by the story of its origin, where even dogs got their own flashbacksand its involuntary humor have made the film a cult film in the horror genre over the years.
