Horizon series developer Guerrilla Games confirms with a new job posting that there will be more machines in the next Horizon game.
Guerrilla Games, the developer of the Horizon series, almost confirms that there will be more machines in the next Horizon game with a new job posting. The Horizon Forbidden West sequel was announced earlier this year.
There will be more machines in the next Horizon game
The Horizon series first began in 2017 with the release of Horizon Zero Dawn. The popularity and high sales of this game brought Horizon Forbidden West in 2022. The series follows the story of Aloy, a young hunter. Aloy navigated open world maps in a post-apocalyptic version of the western United States, battling menacing machines that had taken over the region.
Both games received critical acclaim for their presentation, combat system, storytelling, characterization and exploration. These achievements have prompted the developers to turn it into a trilogy.
According to a job posting on the official Guerrilla Games site, the studio is looking to fill the Senior Machine Gameplay Designer position. The recruit will contribute to the designs of their machines in the new Horizon game in the next chapter and will work until the final step of developing their in-game assets when the game is released. Likewise, the person filling this position is expected to have good teamwork skills, a very creative, detail-oriented mind, and a range of art design experience from drawing to 3D modelling.
There will be a lot of innovation in the third game
Other job qualifications include at least five years of experience in game or combat design (especially with Unreal and Unity engines). A key plus, though not a strict requirement, is level design and combat encounter design experience. Given the Horizon series’ commitment to sticking with only one melee weapon, this could likely be a sign that the combat system will diversify in the upcoming third game.
Guerrilla Games also stated that most of the work for this new position will be done one-on-one in Amsterdam and will provide visa, immigration, permit and placement support to all eligible candidates. The Horizon series gained a fan base for a number of reasons, and according to some of their global ad campaigns, machines are clearly a popular aspect of these games.
