At the beginning of this year, GP Nanja Danhof sounded the alarm about the impending closure of the Kanaleneiland Health Center. More than a hundred healthcare providers work in the health center on Bernadottelaan, including general practitioners, physiotherapists, dieticians and speech therapists. Danhof and her colleagues have been looking for a new place for months, but have found nothing.

A departure would mean that thousands of patients would be left without a GP. Not an option, according to Danhof. “Apart from the fact that general practitioners in other neighborhoods are also overcrowded, many people cannot go to another neighborhood because of their health.”
