hoot at the Assembly the speech on video

Elisabeth Borne. Elisabeth Borne triggered 49.3 to adopt the pension reform in the National Assembly. The decision is strongly criticized and endangers the Prime Minister.

[Mis à jour le 16 mars 2023 à 16h06] This is not a first for the Prime Minister, but this time the hour is serious. Elisabeth Borne triggered 49.3 for the adoption of the pension reform this Thursday, March 16 before the National Assembly. The decision taken at the last minute, after long discussions, has serious consequences. It is first of all a failure for the presidential camp which opts to “facilitate” it by imposing the text without the vote of the deputies, failing to have been able to secure a majority of the votes. With this choice, the government is also exposing itself to the anger of the opposition and especially of the street which has been rising for weeks against the pension reform. But the use of 49.3 is also dangerous for Elisabeth Borne who risks being dismissed.

The authority and legitimacy of Elisabeth Borne has just taken a big hit. If the Prime Minister has said she is ready to be a “fuse”, her future as head of government is very uncertain. She appears weakened after having failed in the mission entrusted to her and which she had repeatedly displayed as her main objective: to gather a majority on pension reform. The welcome he received in the National Assembly is proof that from now on exchanges and negotiations between the government camp and the deputies will be all the more difficult. Elisabeth Borne will have the opportunity to speak and explain herself on this appeal to 49.3 this Thursday evening, at 8 p.m. on TF1.

Elisabeth Borne muzzled at the National Assembly

Elisabeth Borne’s speech to the National Assembly took place in the most total cacophony. Coming to the hemicycle to announce the use of 49.3, the Prime Minister was silenced for several minutes in front of the deputies of La France insoumise who, brandishing signs “64 years old, it’s no!”, sang La Marseillaise . Elisabeth Borne resumed, or rather started, after a suspension of the session and in the most total noise, under the boos of many and the few applause of the majority.

Elisabeth Borne overthrown by a motion of censure?

Who says 49.3, says motion of censure, in particular on the pension reform which arouses so much opposition and anger. Motions are already ready in the drawers to believe several deputies including the communist Fabien Roussel who, on leaving the National Assembly, supported a cross-party initiative: “We will create all the conditions so that [la motion de censure] get as much support as possible. We want it to be defended by the LIOT group so that it receives the most support. For our part, we will support it.” It is about the motion of censure mentioned since last week by the elected centrist Charles de Courson. This text would be the one that has the best chance of succeeding, but a rejection of the he adoption of the pension reform imposed by 49.3 is far from over. Other motions of censure will be tabled, Marine Le Pen notably declared to file a motion of censure in the coming hours. On the left, the Nupes should follow.

Anticipating these motions of censure, Elisabeth Borne declared during her speech before the Assembly: “In a few days, I have no doubt, one or more motions of censure will respond to the government’s commitment. vote will therefore take place, as it should. And it is therefore parliamentary democracy that will have the last word”. A sentence that borders on irony.
