Honduras is planning to build a mega-prison that will be able to house 20,000 inmates in attempts to curb widespread organized crime. The announcement by President Xiomara Castro came in a televised speech on Saturday.
Gang crime, often linked to the activities of drug cartels, is widespread in Honduras and neighboring Central American countries – and often linked to drug trafficking in other parts of Latin America.
El Salvador’s controversial president Nayib Bukele has previously ordered the construction of several large prisons, including a giant prison that holds 40,000 inmates.

The head of the Haitian police agency, Frantz Elbé, has been ousted after widespread criticism. The country has been hit hard by gang violence, and during the period Elbé led the agency, 120 police officers are estimated to have been killed by gang members.
The capital Port-au-Prince is 80 percent controlled by criminal gangs, and more than 2,500 people were killed in the country in the first three months of the year alone. The gangs are generally considered to be better equipped – and have more powerful weapons – than the police.
Normil Rameau, who previously held the chief role within the police, will take over Elbé’s position. In total, more than 320 police officers are estimated to have been killed over a ten-year period.

Johan Floderus, 33, and Saeed Azizi, 60, have now landed on Swedish soil, reports The Express.
Sweden and Iran have carried out a prisoner exchange. The Swedish citizens Johan Floderus and Saeed Azizi, who were imprisoned in Iran, have been extradited to Sweden.
At 21.20 they should have landed at Arlanda.
In exchange, Sweden’s government has agreed to extradite the life-sentenced executioner Hamid Noury to Iran.

A car has overturned on the E45 south of Trollhättan.
The accident happened just before 8pm in the evening.
Ambulance, emergency services and police were called to the scene.

More than 50 world leaders have joined a summit in Switzerland with the aim of finding ways towards a peace process in Ukraine.
– I think we will witness history being written at the summit, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy when the meeting began.

Switzerland’s president, Viola Amherd, says the meeting is meant to “prepare the ground”.
– We want to inspire a process for a fair and lasting peace and we want to take concrete steps in this direction, she said in connection with the meeting’s opening.
A passenger car has been involved in a single-vehicle accident on the E6 between Slöinge and Getinge, write Hallandsposten.
The accident happened around 6 p.m., and the emergency services are on the scene.
A few minutes later, another alarm came that two passenger cars had collided between Halmstad S and Halmstad Ö.
According to the Swedish Transport Administration, the accident has a major impact on traffic.

A meerkat that was stuck in a stormwater pipe at Kolmården Zoo has died, reports say Corren.
A witness tells the newspaper that he saw how the meerkats behaved strangely. They had flocked around a downpipe where one of them got stuck.
– You heard that there was some animal that screamed a bit in a panic, and the other animals seemed stressed too, he tells the newspaper.
Animal wardens were called – but a moment later the tragic news came.
The meerkat had died.
– Somehow the meerkat had managed to get past a grate that sits for the storm water pipe and got in there. Something like this has never happened before. It is very unfortunate, says Oskar Kongshöj, press officer at Kolmården zoo to Corren.

Regarding p1 decision that summer is only broadcast in the SR app. Isn’t that a slap in the face to all pensioners who don’t have the app. What do pensioner organizations say about this? I can imagine that many older people are listening. Which only has the radio.

Hello! This is what it says on SR’s website: “If you want to listen to Summer in P1, you can either listen directly on FM at 1 p.m., just as usual, or on Sveriges Radio Play – where you can also listen to the summer episodes afterwards” .
You can therefore listen live on the radio. However, you will not be able to listen to the episodes in other apps such as Spotify.
