The property tax that homeowners pay is a percentage of that WOZ value. “The municipality determines this percentage itself annually,” says Hans André de la Porte, spokesperson for the Home Owners Association. “Due to the higher WOZ value, many municipalities are adjusting the tax rate slightly. On average, homeowners are paying about 4.5 percent more property tax this year. But the average is not much use, you only have to deal with your own community.” In Utrecht, for example, the tax will increase by 16.5 percent, in Montfoort by 12 percent.
