homemade explosive false passports… What we know about the individual

Arrested “emergency” Tuesday evening at the hospital, a man born in Ukraine is suspected of having tried to make a homemade explosive. He is now being interviewed by the DGSI. Update on the case.

Unusual intervention this Tuesday at Roissy hospital. As reported by Sunday newspaper, the Gendarmerie Surveillance and Intervention Platoon (Psig) carried out “urgently”, in the evening, the arrest of a man who had come to have his face treated. The individual was injured during an explosion of acetone peroxide, which is none other than a very explosive material. An explosion which allegedly occurred while he was trying to design a homemade explosive. On Wednesday evening, this Ukrainian national, native of Russian-speaking Donbass, was still being questioned by DGSI agents.

In the process, investigators began a search of his hotel room. On site, the police discovered false passports, small arms, money, but above all, various explosive devices and ammonium nitrate. This material is known to be explosive and, above all, inexpensive, making it an essential component of the terrorist’s briefcase.

Still according to the JDD, the National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat) would have taken up the case. In any case, the first elements suggest that the man attempted to manufacture several explosive devices intended to destroy French military equipment to be supplied to Ukraine. It appears that the individual is acting alone. Furthermore, given the “artisanal” nature of explosive devices, doubt regarding their real effectiveness seems permissible.
