Homemade bomb exploded – now Sjöbo is forced to close school

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Damage, threats and violence mean that the municipality of Sjöbo in Skåne is now forced to close its upper secondary school. It is the chief safety officer who requested a so-called protective stop and the final straw was when a homemade bomb exploded in the school yesterday – the safety of students and teachers simply cannot be guaranteed.

Since the semester began, the Färsingaskolan in Sjöbo has made approximately one police report per week. Lamps and toilet furniture are broken. A janitor basically works full-time repairing the damage.

Bomb was the final straw

The last straw was when a homemade bomb exploded at the school on Tuesday. The Swedish Teachers’ Union today submitted a notice of protective stoppage. All teaching has now been canceled and the school closed.

– Yesterday, based on some tiktok challenge, they had created their own bomb that they set off in a changing room. So we feel that now is enough, says Helene Olofsson, chief protection officer and chairman of Sweden’s teacher Sjöbo.

Many teachers want to leave

The school has 450 students and is the municipality’s only upper secondary school. They have had problems for a long time. Already four years ago, a majority of the teachers stated that they wanted to leave due to ill health, stress and harassment.

Next week is the sports holiday, so even then the school will be closed. When you can open again is not clear – there is a lot that needs to be resolved. The principal quit at Christmas. Since then, they have not managed to recruit anyone new.
