Homeless Stal Bank Cards and bought lotteries – won 5.2 million

Stolen man wants to share the winnings – with the thieves • Unclear who owns the profit

Two homeless men broke into a car and stole a backpack containing a bank card.
With the card they bought scratch cards – o
CH won SEK 5.2 million.
Now a legal dispute is ongoing about who has the right to the profit.

The car burglary took place in the French city of Toulouse in early February. The two homeless men then broke into a 42-year-old man’s car. They stole his backpack, which contained both bank cards and identity documents.

When the stolen man discovered the burglary, he reported it and blocked his bank card. But then the thieves had already been able to spend about 50 euros, for which they bought scratch cards and cigarettes.

Won over five million kronor

When the thieves realized that they had won, they returned to the tobacco shop where they bought the lots to get their record profit of € 500,000, approximately the equivalent of SEK 5.2 million. But they did not get the winnings, as a police investigation had begun after the stolen 42-year-old’s police report.

Now the question is who owns the profit – the thieves or the man who owns the bank card? The question is not solved legally, but the stolen man has a proposal, his lawyer tells the newspaper La Dépèche:

Want to share the profits with the thieves

The 42-year-old’s lawyer says his client is willing to share the profits with the thieves. This when he believes that both parties have their part in that it became a profit; After all, the thieves bought the winnings, and the man who owns the bank card.

For attendance, the thieves seem to have gone underground. The 42-year-old calls for them to be able to make an event where they share the money.
