Home insurance prices soar mid-year. According to a study by the insurance comparator Assurland.com, which forecast an increase of 3 to 3.5% at the start of the year, the average price of home insurance increased by 5% to 227 euros. in 2023, compared to 216 euros last year. Between 2010 and 2022, the increase is 38%, reveals the study that L’Express obtained.
Apart from Île-de-France, which has recorded a relatively stable evolution of its prices (-0.25%, 241 euros in 2023), no region is spared by the phenomenon. Some are starting to catch up in terms of prices, notes Assurland.com. This is the case of Brittany, which, if it remains the least expensive region for home insurance contracts (189 euros), suffered the most significant increase over one year (10.68%).
Same observation in the Pays de la Loire, where the price of home insurance increases by 10.4% on average. With an increase of 8.15%, Occitanie becomes the most expensive region (251 euros), ahead of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (249 euros, + 3.29%) and Île-de- France. Then come Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (218 euros, + 6.45%), New Aquitaine (217 euros, + 6.44 euros) and Hauts-de-France (217 euros, + 5.05% ).
The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region also suffered a significant increase (204 euros, +8.62 euros), as did the Grand Est (203 euros, +5.27%) and the Centre-Val de Loire (205 euros, + 3.98%). Finally, in Normandy, the price of a home insurance policy increases by 3.53%, and amounts to 197 euros.
10 billion euros in climate damage in 2022
According to Assurland.com, the increase in home insurance prices is due to the loss experience for the year 2022. The insurance comparator notes that between 2021 and 2022, burglaries increased by 11% throughout the territory. , according to INSEE. In Brittany and the Pays de la Loire, they jumped by 41% and 21% respectively, adds Assurland.com, which explains in particular the sharp rise in premiums in these regions.
Climatic disasters also weigh on home insurance premiums. In 2022, the bill, historic, amounted to 10 billion euros, according to France Assureurs. This explains why Occitania, particularly affected by severe weather and the consequences of drought, sees its prices by 8.15% and becomes the most expensive region ahead of Paca and Île-de-France.
Assurland.com also specifies that it will cost 273 euros to insure a house against 187 euros for an apartment. Finally, the comparator notes that slightly more than one out of two policyholders (56%) opts for a “refitting to new” formula, a more protective option which costs around 20 to 25% more expensive than that with obsolescence deducted. This distribution is stable compared to last year, the study indicates.
